Caring for your knitwear

How to care for your knitwear?

Our simple tips to preserve their softness, shape and shine.

At Nathael, every garment is designed to last, to last through the seasons, and to accompany you gently for years to come. Here are our simple and accessible care tips for knitwear, so your pieces stay as beautiful as the day you bought them.

Why taking care of your knitwear is essential.

Knitwear is a living, warm, and comforting material. To ensure a sweater or cardigan retains its shape, softness, and color, proper care is essential. Well-treated knitwear ages beautifully and will last for years to come.

Washing knitwear: softness above all

  • Hand washing : cold or lukewarm water (never hot), special wool/delicate detergent, without enzymes or bleaching agents. Squeeze without twisting.
  • Machine wash : Wool or Delicate program, gentle spin (max. 400 rpm).
  • Protection : Place your items in a laundry bag to prevent friction and stretching.

Good to know : the knit fabric breathes naturally and doesn't need to be washed after every wear. Simply air it on a wide hanger for a few hours.

The tumble dryer? Absolutely avoid it.

  • Drying flat : lay the piece on a clean terry towel, away from direct sunlight. Gently reshape.
  • No wet hangers : this relaxes and marks the shoulders.
  • Storage : Fold and store flat in a dry, well-ventilated drawer.

Small lumps: nothing out of the ordinary

Initially, some pilling may occur, especially in areas of friction. Use a lint comb or a soft wool razor , always without applying pressure.

Natural tips against moths

Slip a sachet of lavender into your drawers or cupboards: a natural, simple and effective solution to protect your knitwear during periods of storage.

Quick guide per fiber

  • Wool & Alpaca : few washes, wool program or hand wash, dry flat.
  • Angora : very gentle wash, laundry bag recommended, dry flat, occasional light brushing.
  • Cotton : tolerant, but use a delicate cycle to preserve the weave. Avoid tumble drying.
  • Linen : delicate wash, gentle spin cycle, dry flat to limit deformation.
  • Lyocell / Viscose : delicate cycle, low spin, dry flat to avoid stretching.

What we avoid

  • Hot water, strong friction, rapid spin cycles.
  • Tumble dryer, radiator, direct sunlight.
  • Wet suspension on hanger.
  • Classic bleaching and softening agents on wool.
